[click title to read entire blog post] I just wok up from my tiresome day and it’s three in the morning. I have been up for a little while mostly just thing and writing. I have a bunch of garbage on my mind and it is leaking into a constant stream of thoughts. I attended PROS yesterday and that was pretty good. I had the opportunity to talk with Holly and she helped me put some things in the right perspective.
So let’s start with PROS and work our way forward from there.
I was privy to a conversation with Paul Arlene (director of MH services where I go) and listened where he did a great job of explaining to a PROSumer what had happen surrounding the termination of a position of another PROSumer’s position as a staff member at the treatment site. By terminating the position it is causing a ripple effect that is setting a lot of boats to rocking but I will get into that in a moment.
The PROSumer mad the point that by removing the position from PROS that it was upsetting because many people really like the man that lost his job due to the cut. Also it would be a loss of the groups be ram that were enjoyable. Current events, independent living skills and a very popular jewelry crafting group would be lost or changed.
Paul explained to him that “he” had to choose where to make the cut. (I had to do a double take, did an administrator just take responsibility for a decision?) He explained that sometime you have to make choices you don’t want to. I was very impress at that moment. I most occurrences you would get a fluffy no realistic answer or none at all. I had to give Paul some credit on this one. Does that mean I agree with his decision? HELL NO! I personally think it could have been handle differently by bringing it up before the rest of the staff and possibly some of the PROSumers (leaving the name of the person who job was at risk out of the formula) I think there could have been some other cuts or add ons that would make the bean counters happy.
In my head I have “of course” played it out, over and over. I am worried about how PROSumers are feeling and what fears this whole issue is bringing up because they are now my fears as well. If PROS does not get its numbers up, who will be the next head on the chopping block. Will it be my clinician? Are the cinical staff worried about losing their job? How does that affect my treatment.
How many more groups will be lost? Is it worth staying at PROS? With the reduction in support and the removal of security personnel become a safety issue? If PROS keeps taking staff away and reducing services why should they still be able to collect full amounts from medicaid? This is all getting to be to much and I am wondering if switch to PROS is the right decision for me or not. So frustrating.
